Background	Bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 (BPIV3) is one of the most important viral respiratory pathogens in young and adult cattle. The nucleocapsid protein (NP) is the most abundant viral protein and is a major regulator of viral replication and transcription. Studies have shown that the C- and N-terminal ends of NP proteins are highly immunogenic during BPIV3 infection and they are good targets for serodiagnosis.The recombinant immunodominant region of BPIV3 NP can be successfully used in indirect ELISA for monitoring BPIV3 infection and these tests are sensitive, rapid and reliable.
